The future of the mobile hotel in 2030 Project

The automotive car as we know it has been changing. Future trends such as autonomous vehicles, connectivity,  smart mobility, artificial intelligence and electrification can transform our city, life pattern, industries and the world around us.

​

Above all, the increasing use of shared economies like Uber is becoming the preferred method of transport. How will this trend affect the way we use vehicles for business? What does the future of ride-sharing hold? How might a van capture interesting data, and what can  it be used for? How can we design vehicles to be sensitive to social and community impact? What kind of benefit will it bring to users?

An example of sharing economy is Airbnb, which has proved to be a strong competitor for the hotel industry, forcing a review of traditional business models. The sharing economy has brought “the option” to customers, enabling far greater choice with increased preferences. It is a challenge and opportunity for the hotel industry to transform their business model with greater focus on customers’ needs and preferences.

For my project, I am introducing the concept of the mobile hotel based on a commercial van, considering the future trends of the automotive vehicle such as  the sharing economy, the Autonomous car, and a connected car. At the same time, the future of the hotel industry will be influenced by user emotion and experience. Recent changes in social values and lifestyles have turned emotions into the core drivers of individual wellbeing. Through user interviews, their needs and preferences can be applied to vehicle design.

The hotel will be about experiencing and connecting people with new technology. The future of the hotel will be impacted by large-scale social, economic, political, environmental and technological changes, bringing new and often unseen challenges, threats and opportunities.

​

These consequences of challenges bring new technologies and work patterns, and all forms of social fashion influence who wants to travel where, for how long, to do what, and at what prices.

​

The future of the hotel is being driven by a complex set of converging forces which are forcing the industry to think about how they might reshape the experience. It is critically important to scan ahead, understand these key external drivers of change and identify the emerging opportunities that could shape the strategic agenda for the next decade.
